Goossen was born in October 1681 in Swijp and his baptism took place on October 2nd, 1681 in Lochem.1   His godfather was Gerrit Berepas and his godmother was Aeltjen Berepas. Goossen's father was Berent Burinck and his mother was Otjen Schulten.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Burinck and N.N. N.N.; his maternal grandparents were Gerrit Schulten and N.N. N.N.. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Jan, Jan, Herman, Trientjen and Jenneken.  He was the fifth oldest of the six children.
