Jan was born in March 1676 in Swijp and his baptism took place on March 19th, 1676 in Lochem.1   His godfathers were Albert Ketelenbergh, Otto Schulten and his godmother was Thrijne ten Haeve. Jan's father was Berent Burinck and his mother was Otjen Schulten.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Burinck and N.N. N.N.; his maternal grandparents were Gerrit Schulten and N.N. N.N.. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Jan, Herman, Goossen, Trientjen and Jenneken.  He was the third oldest of the six children.
