Robert was born on April 17th, 1817 in England.  Robert's father was John Parkin and his mother was Elizabeth Howard. He had six brothers and three sisters, named William, John, George, Cradock, Isaac, Frederick, Elizabeth, Jane and Charlotte.  He was the fourth oldest of the ten children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Alfred, Thomas, Maria Magdalena and Martha Suzanna.  He died at the age of 68 on January 15th, 1886 in Edenburg.
