Isaac was born in 1827 in Port Elizabeth.  Isaac's father was John Parkin and his mother was Elizabeth Howard. He had six brothers and three sisters, named William, John, Robert, George, Cradock, Frederick, Elizabeth, Jane and Charlotte.  He was the nineth oldest of the ten children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Alfred, Thomas, Maria Magdalena and Martha Suzanna.  He died at the age of 46 on August 8th, 1873 in Krompoort.
