George was born on July 27th, 1821.  George's father was John Parkin and his mother was Elizabeth Howard. He had six brothers and three sisters, named William, John, Robert, Cradock, Isaac, Frederick, Elizabeth, Jane and Charlotte.  He was the sixth oldest of the ten children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Alfred, Thomas, Maria Magdalena and Martha Suzanna.  He died at the age of 79 on July 11th, 1901 in Port Elizabeth.
