Sarah was born in 1815 in Rayne, Essex and her christening took place there on May 7th, 1815.1 2   Sarah's father was John Olley and her mother was Jane Shonk.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward Olley and Mary Smee. She had five brothers and three sisters, named John, William, James, Joseph, Richard, Charlotte, Mary and Maria.  She was the third oldest of the nine children.
