William was born on July 23rd, 1839 in St Pancras, Middlesex and his christening took place on August 11th, 1839 in Saint Andrew, Holborn, Middlesex.1 2   William's father was Charles Norrington and his mother was Mary Ann Benton.  His maternal grandparents were Edward Benton and Ann Griffiths. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Charles, Henry, Mary , Emma and Jane.  He was the second youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 39 in March 1879.3
