Mary was born in 1802 in Saint Andrew, Holborn, Middlesex and her christening took place there on March 28th, 1802.1 2  Mary's father was Edward Benton and her mother was Ann Griffiths. She had two sisters named Ann and Susanna.  She was the youngest of the three children.  She died at the age of 72 in December 1874.3
