Mary was born in 1814.  Mary's father was Henry George Gannaway and her mother was Ann Mainer.  Her paternal grandparents were James Gannaway and Mary Hawks; her maternal grandparents were John Mainer and Sarah Powel. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Thomas, James, Wilmot, William, Emma and Elizabeth.  She was the second oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 2 in 1816.
