Elizabeth was born in March 1851 in Hornchurch, Essex.1   Elizabeth's father was James Aylen and her mother was Pleasance Hammond.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Aylen and Mary Sayers; her maternal grandparents were James Hammond and Elizabeth. She had four brothers and a sister, named William, James, Thomas, George and Eliza.  She was the third oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 78 in March 1929 in Camberwell, Surrey.2
