Elizabeth was born about November 1834 in Chignal St James Essex and her christening took place there on December 25th, 1834.1 2  Elizabeth's father was Zachariah Childs (Farmer Shoemaker) and her mother was Sarah Tyler.  Her paternal grandparents were Zachariah Childs and Mary ?. She had a brother and three sisters, named Arthur, Sarah, Isabel and Matilda.  She was the second oldest of the five children.

Elizabeth and Robert were married in a religious ceremony on July 10th, 1859 in Poplar.4   They had three sons and three daughters, named Richard, Robert, Arthur, Jessie, Barbara and Catherine.
