Robert was born in 1866 in Bromley.1   Robert's father was Robert Osborne (Engineer scotsman Aberdeen) and his mother was Elizabeth Catherine (of Chignal) Childs (dressmaker).  His maternal grandparents were Zachariah Childs (Farmer Shoemaker) and Sarah Tyler. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Richard, Arthur, Jessie, Barbara and Catherine.  He was the third youngest of the six children.
