Benjamin was born in 1862 in Braintree Essex and his christening took place on February 6th, 1868 at St Michaels Braintree.  Benjamin's father was William of Coggeshall Amos (Silk Weaver) and his mother was Susannah Crisell (Hand Loom Weaver Silk b Gt Cornard).  His paternal grandparents were William Amos (b Coggeshall Silk Weaver) and Martha York (B Gt Cornard Suffolk D Martin Yard Braintree); his maternal grandparents were Robert  Crisell (Silk Weaver b Sudbury) and Mary A (b Newton Suffolk). He had four brothers and a sister, named Alexander, Henry, Robert, Charles and Martha.  He was the third youngest of the six children. He had a half-sister named Matilda.  He died at the age of 77 in March 1939 in Bromley Kent.1

Benjamin and Alice were married in a religious ceremony about June 1884 in Braintree.2   They had a son and two daughters, named Benjamin, Florence and Jessie.
