Alexander was born about December 1856 in Braintree Essex and his christening took place on February 6th, 1868 at St Michaels Braintree.1  Alexander's father was William of Coggeshall Amos (Silk Weaver) and his mother was Susannah Crisell (Hand Loom Weaver Silk b Gt Cornard).  His paternal grandparents were William Amos (b Coggeshall Silk Weaver) and Martha York (B Gt Cornard Suffolk D Martin Yard Braintree); his maternal grandparents were Robert  Crisell (Silk Weaver b Sudbury) and Mary A (b Newton Suffolk). He had four brothers and a sister, named Henry, Benjamin, Robert, Charles and Martha.  He was the second oldest of the six children. He had a half-sister named Matilda.  He died about December 1901 in Dunmow.2

Alexander and Maria were married in a religious ceremony about June 1876 in Braintree Essex.3   They had two sons and three daughters, named Sidney, Robert , Alice, Caroline and Kate.
