Janet's father was John Turner and her mother was Elisabeth Manuel.  Her paternal grandparents were John Turner and Janet Marshall. She had six brothers and a sister, named John, James, Peter, Richard, William, Robert and Mary.  She was the second oldest of the eight children. She had a half-sister named Mary.  She died at the age of 91 in 1935 in Edinburgh.
