James' father was John Turner and his mother was Elisabeth Manuel.  His paternal grandparents were John Turner and Janet Marshall. He had five brothers and two sisters, named John, Peter, Richard, William, Robert, Janet and Mary.  He was the third oldest of the eight children. He had a half-sister named Mary.  He died due to a respiratory problem and/or pneumonia, influenza, at the age of 86 on January 6th, 1933 in Ontario.  He was buried on January 8th, 1933 in Ontario.^3 4
