The Earl of Dalkeith was William Henry Walter Montagu-Douglas-Scott, 6th Duke of Buccleuch, 8th Duke of Queensberry. He sat as Conservative Member of Parliament for Midlothian from 1853-1868 and from 1874-1880. i.e he was not re-elected in 1868 (beaten by Sir Alexander Ramsay-Gibson-Maitland (and by William Ewart Gladstone in 1880).
