Howard's father was John Towers and his mother was Maude Gertrude Hunter. His paternal grandparents were Walter Colquhoun Towers and Jane (Jean, Jeanie) Kerr. He had a brother and two sisters, named Milton, Loretta and Peggy. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 97 on August 6th, 2015 in Texas. The funeral took place on August 15th, 2015 in Texas.¹¹
