Obituary for Howard E. Towers
Memorial Services for Mr. Howard E. Towers, age 97 of Hideaway, are scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Lindale with Dr. Bryan Brown, Rev. James Thompson, and Rev. Rick Ivey officiating. Services are under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale.
Mr. Towers died Thursday, August 6, 2015 in a Tyler hospital. He was born in San Francisco, California on May 27, 1918 to the late John and Maude Gertrude (Hunter) Towers and served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a Pilot of a B-17 flying 33 missions with the 379th Bomb Group during WWII. Mr. Towers was formerly of San Francisco and moved to Tyler in 1957 and then to Hideaway in 1969 and retired as a sales representative for Curtis 1000 in Dallas and Tyler. He was a faithful head usher at First United Methodist Church in Lindale for a number of years and was involved in the Hideaway Kiwanis, Tennis Club, Dance Club, and Meals on Wheels for 10 years.
Mr. Towers is preceded in death by his sister, Loretta Towers and infant brother. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Lou Towers of Hideaway; son, John H. Towers and wife, Kristie of Plano; daughter, Carol Sewell and husband, Stanford of Plano; sister, Peggy Beatty of Indiana; 5 grandchildren, Kelly Ballard and husband, Brian of Allen; Nathan Towers and wife, Heather of Ft. Worth; Joshua Towers and wife, Jackie of Frisco; Michele Mora and husband, Eric of McKinney; Lori Arndt and husband, Scott of McKinney; 10 great-grandchildren; niece, Melody Darrow and husband, Doug of Indiana; and nephew, Fred Beatty and wife, Helen of Philadelphia.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Hideaway Kiwanis Club and the Hideaway Tennis Club.
