Andrew's father was Andrew Taylor and his mother was Ann Scoffield.  His maternal grandparents were James Scoffield and Jane Bone. He had five brothers and six sisters, named James, Andrew, Robert, David, Joseph, Barbra, Annie, Jannet, Janet, Mary and Jane.  He was the third youngest of the twelve children.  He died due to a respiratory problem and/or pneumonia, chronic bronchitis, duration 6 months, at the age of 62 on June 2nd, 1889 in Ayrshire.³
