John McMurran 
John was born in February 1841 in Newton-on-Ayr.1 2 John's father was John McMurran and his mother was Agnes Robertson. His paternal grandparents were William McMurran and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were William Robertson and Elspeth Thomson. He had three brothers and two sisters, named James, George, William, Alice and Agnes. He was the third oldest of the six children. He had a half-brother named Thomas.-
