Keagins' father was Hugh Kegan and his mother was Hughina Corrigan. His paternal grandparents were Hugh Keggans and Agnes Robertson. He had three brothers and five sisters, named William, Hugh, John, Agnes, Maggie, Hughina, Hughina and Betty. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children. He died in 1907 in Coylton.
