Elizabeth, known as Betty, was born in 1921 in Coylton.

Betty's father was Hugh Kegan and her mother was Hughina Corrigan. Her paternal grandparents were Hugh Keggans and Agnes Robertson. She had four brothers and four sisters, named William, Keagins, Hugh, John, Agnes, Maggie, Hughina and Hughina. She was the youngest of the nine children. She died at the age of 93 in 2014 in Ayr.¹
