John's father was Hugh Kegan and his mother was Hughina Corrigan. His paternal grandparents were Hugh Keggans and Agnes Robertson. He had three brothers and five sisters, named William, Keagins, Hugh, Agnes, Maggie, Hughina, Hughina and Betty. He was the second youngest of the nine children. He died at the age of 80 in 1995 in Ayr.¹
