Jennie's father was Archibald Hewitt and her mother was Janet White Robertson. Her maternal grandparents were David Robertson and Mary Eaglesome Smith Frew. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Alexander, James, Archibald, William, Mary, Maggie, Dora and Alice. She was the third oldest of the nine children. She died at the age of 57 in 1944 in Govan.
