James' father was James Fyfe and his mother was Margaret (Maggie) Hamilton. His maternal grandparents were Hugh Hamilton and Catherine Ferguson. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Samuel, Kate, Jessie, Maggie and Helen. He was the third youngest of the seven children. He died at the age of 62 on January 30th, 1933.³
