Peter's father was William Shaw Cree and his mother was Agnes Bryan Munachen. His maternal grandparents were William Munachen and Catherine Robertson. He had six brothers and two sisters, named William, John, George, James, Euphemia, Andrew, Agnes and Kate. He was the youngest of the nine children. He had a half-brother named Peter. He died at the age of 59 in 1972 in Ayr.
