Archibald's father was James Brown and his mother was Marion Gibb. His maternal grandparents were George Gibb and Helen Cunningham. He had three brothers and five sisters, named William, George, James, Helen, Elizabeth, Janet, Jessie and Marion. He was the second youngest of the nine children. He died at the age of 70 on June 22nd, 1932 in Toronto.
