Marion's father was George Gibb and her mother was Helen Cunningham. Her maternal grandparents were Archibald Cunningham and Elisabeth Anderson. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Archibald, George, John, James, Elisabeth, Helen and Janet. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children. She died at the age of 77 in 1900 in Edinburgh.
