Mordecai Lewis was born on February 6th, 1816 in Sevier County, Tennessee.  Mordecai Lewis' father was Isaac Love and his mother was Mary Lewis.  His maternal grandparents were Mordecai Lewis and Mary Ziegler. He had eight brothers and five sisters, named William King, James Thomas, Alexander Preston, Andrew Martin, Reuben Blount, Isaac Moore, Elizabeth Thompson, John Wesley, Mary Lewis, Susannah, Sally KenCannon, Catherine McDonald and Margaret Mitchell Wear.  He was the sixth oldest of the fourteen children.
