Catherine McDonald was born on August 25th, 1827 in Sevier County, Tennessee.  Catherine McDonald's father was Isaac Love and her mother was Mary Lewis.  Her maternal grandparents were Mordecai Lewis and Mary Ziegler. She had nine brothers and four sisters, named William King, James Thomas, Alexander Preston, Andrew Martin, Mordecai Lewis, Reuben Blount, Isaac Moore, Elizabeth Thompson, John Wesley, Mary Lewis, Susannah, Sally KenCannon and Margaret Mitchell Wear.  She was the twelfth oldest of the fourteen children.
