James W. Slayton 
James W. was born on April 6th, 1849 in Greene Co., PA.1 James W.'s father was Daniel W. Slayton and his mother was Mary Shiltz. His paternal grandparents were Luther Slayton and Almina Preston; his maternal grandparents were John Shiltz and Catherine. He had twelve brothers and four sisters, named Phineas Edwin, Phineas Edwin, George A, George Albert, John N, Cyrus E, Thadeus Jacob, Thadeus Jacob, Samuel Vernon, Samuel Vernon, Isaac, Isaac, Esther, Elizabeth J., Catherine and Catherine. He was the oldest of the seventeen children.1 -
