Joan was born in 1398 in Westiminster, Middlesex, England.  Joan's father was John De Beaufort and her mother was Margaret De Holand.  Her paternal grandparents were John of Gaunt and Catherine Roet; her maternal grandparents were Thomas De Holand and Alice Fitzalan. She had four brothers and a sister, named Henry, John, Thomas, Edmund and Margaret.  She was the oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 47 on July 15th, 1445 in Dunbar Castle, East Lothian, Scotland.  She was buried on November 22nd, 1445 in Charter House, Perth, Perthshire, Scotland.


Joan's first family with James I Stewart

‌Joan and James I were married in a religious ceremony on February 2nd, 1424 in St Mary, Overy, Southwark, Surrey, England.  They had four sons and four daughters, named Andrew, John I, James II, Alexander, Margaret, Isabel, Joan and Annabella.

‌Joan and James were married in a religious ceremony in 1438.
