His paternal grandparents were George Jackson Keahey and Margaret Keahey. He had six brothers and four sisters, named William, George Thomas, John Thomas, James A., Benjamin Franklin, Joseph Henry, Margaret, Amanda Jane, Frances Indiana and Martha.
