Rebecca was born about 1798. Rebecca's father was William , Jr. Gilreath and her mother was Sarah "Sallie" Jones. Her paternal grandparents were William Gilreath and Mary Arrington. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Hugh, Henry H., Hardie Jones, William Hilliar., Hiram, Martha P., Delilah and Susanna. She is the second youngest of the nine children.-
