Adela was born in 1062 in Normandy, France.  Adela's father was William I the Conqueror of England and her mother was Mathilda of Flanders.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert II The Magnificent Devil of Normandy and Herleva de Falaise; her maternal grandparents were Baldwin V the Pious de Lille of Flanders and Adela (Alix) Capet of France. She had four brothers and five sisters, named Richard of, Robert III Curthose of, William II Rufus of, Henry I Beauclerc of, Adeliza of, Cecilia of Holy, Agatha of, Constance of and Matilda of. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Gherbod the, Richard and Gundrada de.  She died in Marcigny-sur-Loire, France.  She was buried in Abbey of Holy Trinity, Caen, Normandy, France.

‌Adela and Stephen Henry the Sage of were married in a religious ceremony in 1080 in Chartres Cathedral, Breteuil, Eure, France.  They had six sons and seven daughters, named Humbert of, Stephen de Blois of, Henry of, Philip of, William, Theobald III the Great of, Matilda of, Odo of, Agnes of, Eleanor of, Lithiuse (Adele) of, Alice of and Emma of.
