Peter Henry was born in December 1853 in Jackson County, West Virginia. Peter Henry's father was Paul Shaver and his mother was Susan Todd. His paternal grandparents were Paul Shaver and Caroline Sarah Harper. He had three brothers and four sisters, named William P., James H., Abraham P., Caroline, Eliza J., Susan Francis and Ruhama.
