Martha R. was born in July 1898. Martha R.'s father was Peter Henry Shaver and her mother was Elizabeth Haynes. Her paternal grandparents were Paul Shaver and Susan Todd. She had seven brothers and two sisters, named William E., Joseph E., Jessie J., Arney A., Lemie Lloyd, Carl R., Otha Clyde, Mamie Artie and Eliza Esteline.
