Martha was born on December 21st, 1842 in Walton, Kanawha County, Virginia. Martha's father was John David Shaver and her mother was Nancy Tanner. Her paternal grandparents were Paul Shaver and Catherine Riffle. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Edward, Perry G., Frank, Benjamin Franklin, Samuel L., Malinda, Agnes, Margaret Lydia and Louisa. She had five half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Paul, John D., Henry S., Henderson, Angnus, Susannah, Mary Catherine, Sarah Jane and Sidney. She died at the age of 68 on March 14th, 1911 in Clover, Smithfield District, Virginia. She was buried in Lewis Cemetery near Clover, Virginia.General Notes
