His paternal grandparents were John David Shaver and Nancy Tanner; his maternal grandparents were Martin Kiser and Mary Ferrell. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Isiah Elias, Essaias, Ezekial, H. Martin, Isaiah W., Paul, Pharoah E., Sarah Catherine Jane, Viola Ollie and Cellia J.. He was the third oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 46 in 1920 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.General Notes
