Mathilde was born in 0943 in Laon, Champagne.  Mathilde's father was Louis IV "Transmarinus" King of France and her mother was Gerberge Princess Of Germans.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles King Of France and Edith Princess Of England; her maternal grandparents were Heinrich I King Of The Germans and Mathilde Countess Of Ringelheim. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Lothaire, Louis, Charles, Henri, Hildegarde, Mathilde and Alberade.  She was the second oldest of the eight children. She had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named Henri, Gerberge, Alberade Of, Alberade and Wiltrude.
