Her paternal grandfather was Samuel Kendall Gifford and her paternal grandmother is Lora Ann Demille. She had a brother and four sisters, named Henry, Alpha, Mahala, Lovina and Ruth. She is the youngest of the six children. She had six half-brothers and six half-sisters, and also a half-sibling of unknown gender, named Riley Kendall, Samuel, Oliver, Orson, Nathan Alpheus, Cyrus, Bertha, Ingri, Hannah Jane, Harriet, Irene, Elsie and Unknown.-
