Henry was born on March 9th, 1902 in Springdale, Washington Co., Utah. Henry's father was Alpheus Gifford and his mother is Ursula Ett Winder. His paternal grandfather was Samuel Kendall Gifford and his paternal grandmother is Lora Ann Demille. He had five sisters named Alpha, Mahala, Lovina, Ruth and Sarilla. He is the second youngest of the six children. He had six half-brothers and six half-sisters, and also a half-sibling of unknown gender, named Riley Kendall, Samuel, Oliver, Orson, Nathan Alpheus, Cyrus, Bertha, Ingri, Hannah Jane, Harriet, Irene, Elsie and Unknown.-
