Susannah was born in 1797 in Surry County,North Carolina. Susannah's father was Samuel Gentry and her mother was Sarah Brock. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Gentry and Agnes Shelton. She had four brothers and three sisters, named George, Shelton, Thomas, Arthur, Nancy, Sarah (Sally) and Elizabeth. She was the second youngest of the eight children. She had four half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Matthew, Joseph, James, William, Agnes and Daughter.-
