William was born about 1681. William's father was Peter Shelton and his mother was Susanna Jaxon. His paternal grandparents were James Shelton and Eleanor West. He had two brothers and a sister, named Ralph, Peter and Susannah. He had three half-brothers named Thomas, Zebulon and Henry.-
