James S. was born on October 22nd, 1795 in ,Clark County,KY. James S.'s father was James Young and his mother was Mary Guyn. His maternal grandparents were Robert Guyn and Jane Raburn. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Robert, John M., George Washington, Nancy, Mary, Martha J., Eliza and Matilda. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children. James Young of Decatur Co IN married Elizabeth Kinsley in Shelby Co IN on
15 Jun 1823. John M Young, J.P., was the officiate. Elizabeth was a
resident of Shelby Co at the time.
While LDS Family Search record shows James being born 1814 in Shelbyville, IN, this seems unlikely compared to census data. Based on his age in 1860, he woul have been born in 1795, mostly likely with the rest of his siblings in Clark County, KY. Later data from Mortimore family gives date used.

1830 Shelby County census --- James Young (1 male 30-39; 1 female 20-29; 1 male 5-9; 1 female < 5). Based on marriage data for Sarah Mortimer, this was first wife and their 2 children.
1840 Shelby County census --- James Young (1 male 40-49; 1 female 30-39; 1 female 20-29; 1 female 15-19; 1 male 10-14; 2 males 5-9; 2 males < 5). According to our tree, James Young was about 45; Sally Young was about 26; Martha was abt 12; James Jr. Young was 5; John A. Young was 3; and Robert Young was 2. There are inconsistencies with earlier census and our knowledge of his children with Sally. Clearly someone was living with the family.
