Roy Luke Rufford was born on December 2nd, 1913 in Lawrence Co., Indiana. Roy Luke Rufford's father was Leander Lee Deckard and his mother was Lavesta Smith. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Deckard and Mary Polly Ann Kinser; his maternal grandparents were David Smith and Rebecca Sexton. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Hebert, Elza Ed, Clovis Bean, Glenn, Floyd, Carl Edward, Dorothy, Dorotha, Mary Ann and Margaret Louise. Luke worked in the logging business all his life. He was very proud of
the fact he kept his hair when all his brothers had lost theirs.
