Paul A. was born on July 10th, 1912 in Monroe County, Indiana. Paul A.'s father was Oliver Carmie Deckard and his mother was Ola Mae Shields. His paternal grandparents were Andrew Deckard and Phoebe Fleetwood; his maternal grandparents were David Thomas Shields and Sarah Frances Mize. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Russell, Oliver Elmo, Rosalie, Arda Frances and Mary. He was the second oldest of the six children.-
