Dessa was born on June 24th, 1891 in Chapel Hill, Monroe Co., Indiana. Dessa's father was Benjamin Deckard and her mother was Mary Polly Ann Kinser. Her paternal grandparents were John Wesley Deckard and Malissa Eads; her maternal grandparents were Austin Kinser and Elizabeth Sipes. She had three brothers and a sister, named Leander Lee, John, Perry and Emma. She was the second oldest of the five children. She had a half-brother named Clifford. She died at the age of 66 on December 26th, 1957. She was buried in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Monroe Co., Indiana.-
