Her paternal grandparents were William Smith and Alice Chambers; her maternal grandparents were Benjamin Deckard and Mary Polly Ann Kinser. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Alfred, Lanford, Edward, Mabel, Edith and Inez. She was the youngest of the seven children.-
